Do you want to see some live snakes that live in the Valley? Join guest naturalist Michelle McCloskey from Black Moshannon State Park in exploring the snakes that reside in or around Bald Eagle State Park. Meet at the Russell P. Letterman Campground Amphitheatre.

Family Fishing Day!!!
Discover just how much fun fishing can be at a PA Fish and Boat Commission’s Family Fishing Program. Bald Eagle State Park and PA Fish and Boat Commission will be sponsoring a Family Fishing Program at Bald Eagle State Park (Beach Day Use Area). Learn basic fishing skills such as gear, knots, and casting. Then try your luck fishing for a variety of fish in Foster Joseph Sayers Lake. Pre-registration is required by June 2nd. Kayak/Canoe Eagle Watch
Join Tussey Mountain Outfitters and the Bald Eagle State Park staff for this paddle on F.J. Sayers Lake to observe the resident eagles and maybe their young! Cost – $15/person for canoe or kayak. NOTE: Pre-registration is required by Friday, June 4th. Call the Park Office to reserve your spot and to get more details.

Walk on the Wild Side!
Don’t miss this chance to explore off trail and have the opportunity to see the side of the park where turkey, deer, and large boulder fields outnumber the people! This exhilarating hike is designed for the sure footed as you will be hiking off trail and climbing to the top of a boulder field on Bald Eagle Mountain! Participants need to be able to hike 2 miles over uneven surfaces. Meet in the Primitive Campground at the restroom between sites 21 and 23. 2:00 PM — 4:00 PM
Family Bird Walk
Experience an unpredictable afternoon of bird watching with your whole family! Learn the basics of bird watching and then go on a walk to test your skills. Participants will be walking approximately one mile. Meet at the Russell P. Letterman Campground Amphitheatre.

GPS Basics
Learn how to navigate your surroundings with the help of a global positioning system. Join the park educator in learning the basics of using a GPS. A brief presentation will occur and then be followed by a geocaching walk. GPS units will be provided for the program. Meet at the Russell P. Letterman Campground Amphitheatre. 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

This is a one day workshop that teaches you all about birds and how you can align lessons from this workshop with academic standards! Have you ever made a fire without matches? Have you ever made a fire without anything except materials found in your natural environment? If you answered no to these questions, this program is an experience you don’t want to miss. It will focus on building a fire by friction using a primitive bow-drill technique. Meet at the Russell P. Centre Region Parks & Recreation celebrates the
4th annual Earth Day Birthday Event
at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center
Come celebrate the CRPR 4th Annual Earth Day Birthday Event Sunday, April 18th from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center! This fun, environmental and educational celebration is free of cost, occurs rain or shine, and is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors while also gaining some new eco-friendly knowledge. Event includes arts, crafts, games, live music, displays and more! Refreshments will be available.
Attractions include: Puppets, giant rabbits, music, a presentation by Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and displays from organizations such as Penn State Adventure & Recreation, Green Irene, Clear Water Conservancy, Centre Wildlife Care, Bald Eagle State Park, Sun Direct and more!

Event: Canoe / Kayak Demo

Come out to Bald Eagle State Park and test paddle different canoe and kayak models on the beautiful waters of Foster Joseph Sayers Lake. This is a good opportunity to try white water or recreational kayaks and canoes.
Transportation: Bald Eagle State Park is located at 149 Main Park Road in Howard. If driving from State College travel east on College Avenue towards Lemont; turn left on US-322 W; turn right onto I-99 N / US-220 N towards Bellefonte; turn left on PA-26 / Walnut Street; turn right on PA-150 N; turn right on Main Park Road; once inside the park follow the signs to the Swimming Beach Area (second right).

Event: Family Fun Hike
Location: Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, State College

This Family friendly hike, part of the CRPR Explorer’s Series, is offered especially for the Outdoor Expo!
This is a great way to get out and stretch your legs after a long winter and see how the marsh is waking up for Spring! Join a nature center naturalist to explore Millbrook Marsh and get some fresh air. This non-strenuous hike will include simple activities on the trail for all ages to enjoy. In case of severe weather, walk will be cancelled. Please meet at the nature center barn.
Transportation: Millbrook Marsh Nature Center is located at 548 Puddintown Road in College Township. Event: Explore Musser Gap

Come explore a relatively new addition to Rothrock State Forest!
Enjoy hiking in Shingletown but sick of the crowds?
Want to familiarize yourself with the latest recreational gateway to Rothrock State Forest?
Curious about those new-fangled trekking poles but wanted to try out the latest models before considering a purchase?
Join ClearWater Conservancy and Leki Trekking Poles on an out-and-back hike through ClearWater-protected land to scenic vistas on Tussey Ridge. Hear about ClearWater’s future plans for this fantastic recreational resource, including a dam-removal project and the imminent construction of a pedestrian and bicycle path linking Musser Gap to the greater State College area.
Dress appropriately for the weather. We’ll be hiking for about three hours, so some snacks and water would probably be a good idea. Sturdy footwear is highly recommended. Musser Gap contains a portion of the Tussey Mountain Important Bird Area, so those of you with a good set of binoculars may want to bring them along.

Transportation: From the intersection of Route 322 and Route 45, head west on Route 45; go 3.5 miles and the parking area will be on your left.

Event: Alpine Tower Climb
Location: Stone Valley Recreation Area, Vertical Adventures Alpine Tower
Time: Sunday, April 11th @ 10AM – 4PM
All are welcome to this introductory climbing event, regardless of experience. University staff will greet you and show you the ropes including safety and equipment. Participants will attend ground school where you will learn how to tie the necessary knots, how to belay, and how to move effectively and efficiently on the wall.
All gear and equipment will be provided for the event; however you should bring a lunch, plenty of water and a light jacket. Closed-toed shoes are required (climbing shoes are best, but sneakers will suffice) and pants are recommended. The program is limited to 18 participants and will not last more than 6 hours.
Transportation: Stone Valley Recreation Area is located on Lodge Lane in Masseyburg. If driving from State College, take Route 26 to Charter Oak Road and turn right; turn left on Lodge Lane at the second entrance to the park.

Event: Beginner Trail Ride
Location: Central Parklet, State College
Time: Sunday, April 11th @ 9:30AM – 11:30AM
Trail riding in Central Pennsylvania doesn’t have to include hairpin turns on the edge of a mountain. Jean-Luc Serriere, owner of State College Bicycles, will lead this ride on local trails that can be easily accessed from downtown State College.
Beginning at the Central Parklet located on Fraser Street, Jean-Luc will start off by offering bike safety checks to ensure your ride is ready for the trails. From downtown, the group will head towards the Sunset / Bellefonte Rail-Trail and will explore the adjacent single- and double-track loops.
This ride is geared towards any beginner or intermediate riders that would like to ride in-town trails. You should bring your own water bottle or hydration system, a snack, your cell phone, and a spare inner-tube. Helmets are required for this ride.
Transportation: The Central Parklet is located at 241 South Fraser Street in State College. Parking downtown is free in municipal lots and garages. The Beaver Street Garage provides easy access to the Parklet.

Our Outdoor Expo is coming and it’s bigger than ever. Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11. Saturday will continue our tradition of bringing in our experts representing over 30 of our vendors. Sunday, April 11, is the bonus day of our Outdoor Expo. We have ten different activities set up in which you can participate, most of which are free. You can go on one of two trail rides, climb the Alpine Tower at Stone Valley, hike the trails and beautify the area as you go, or make your way to a local crag and climb to your heart’s desire. Come enjoy games, crafts, pumpkin carving, food and this fascinating outdoor trail, geared toward ages 4 to 10. The unifying theme of this year’s trail is “Halloween is a seasonal celebration,” and we will highlight the cycles of nature. Your trail group will be guided by costumed characters along the lake trail through several stations of fun interactive activities. Costumed Penn State Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management students produce each trail station. These ‘characters’ receive credits and valuable experience as part of the course entitled “Natural History Interpretation, RPTM 325,” taught by Shaver’s Creek faculty.
