Penn State will be one of six hosts for the 2010 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Regional Championships scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 10. The No. 14 Nittany Lions, making their 36th Regional Championship appearance welcome No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 11 LSU, No. 33 Maryland, No. 34 Ohio State and No. 35 New Hampshire to Rec Hall.
The individual all-around competitors not on a qualifying team include Pittsburgh’s Alicia Talucci and Megan Biros, Lorraine Galow and Miranda Der of Bridgeport and Yale’s Bridgette Kivisto, with Jenna Zito of Rutgers as the alternate. The individual event specialists not on a qualifying team are Dani Bryan (Pittsburgh/Vault), Jennifer Liberato (Pittsburgh/Uneven bars), Emily Repko (Bridgeport/Beam) and Lauren Gildemeyer (Brockport/Floor).
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Gainesville, Fla. on April 22-24 hosted by the University of Florida. The event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
Tickets are on sale now for the NCAA Regional Championship at Penn State. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and students and groups of 20 or more. Tickets will also be on sale at the door the day of the event. For additional ticket information, please call 814-865-5555.
The Nittany Lions will open the 2010 Regional Championships on vault. Following a bye, the team will move to bars and beam. After a bye in the fifth rotation, Penn State will close out the meet on floor.
By 1970, Penn State had one of the most extensive women’s athletics programs in the nation with 11 varsity sports. This was 2 years before Title IX legislation. By the mid 1970′s, Penn State offered a total of 14 varsity sports. The women have gone on to thrive here at Penn State breaking records and winning national championships.

Haverbeck is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and is the first woman to be inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame. In 1999, she also became the profession’s first woman recognized for 25 years of service. In 2000 she was the first woman to win CoSIDA’s Arch Ward Award which is the Heisman Trophy of sports information. She won CoSIDA’s first Trailblazer Award in 2001.

The Blue-White Game presented by AAA is one of the nation’s most popular spring football contests. The attendance record has fallen each of the past three years, with an estimated crowd of 76,500 flocking to the 2009 contest. An estimated 73,000 fans attended in 2008 and 71,000 in 2007. More than 40,000 fans have attended the game in 11 of the past 14 years, with rainy conditions during the other three contests.
Numerous events will be held in conjunction with the Blue-White Game to celebrate Penn State football, including the popular pre-game autograph session with the players, the announcement of the spring football award winners as well as the recipients of the PNC Bank “Player of the Game” from last season.
A Big Ten power house in gymnastics, the Penn State Men’s team won the NCAA Championship Title for the 12th time in 2007. You can watch Men’s and Women’s meets at Rec Hall on the University Park Campus.
The Penn State Lady Lions, coached by Coquese Washington represent Penn State Basketball at NCAA Tournaments… the Lady Lions are a strong force in Big Ten Basketball and call the Bryce Jordan Center home court.
The NCAA Division 1 Penn State Nittany Lions, coached by Ed DeChellis rock the court at the Bryce Jordan Center, hosting showdowns with other teams in the Big Ten Conference. The Nittany Lions were the 2009 NIT Champions and made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001.
